Wash all your shirts and cotton fabrics.

Choose the side of the shirt you wish to have showing in your quilt, lay them folded in a grid pattern like this, once you like the layout take a picture! You will use this as a guide when you sew them together.

Now cut the front from the back along all the sides. Once cut apart lay the shirt facing down on the ironing board. Cut about a 14 inch square of the fusible interfacing. Most shirts except for dark ones you pretty much see the print on the front so you can center the fusible and press it to the shirt. It's really important to make sure fuse it really well.

When cooled take your shirt to your cutting board, place your square ruler over the shirt. Cutting around the square. Most shirt designs will fit with in the ruler.( This ruler is actually 13 inches.)
Nothing is more important than keeping your tools well protected. My recent tool I purchased was a blending board by Howard Brush a local RI company that has been in business for over 100 years. The blending boards are used to blend fibers to used to spin into amazing yarns. For a great video on blending boards Gwen is the expert on the topic and has created videos using her Clemes and Clemes Blending Boards. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RlmqzEUNMxE.

I decided to make a folded carry cover so that the needles are protected and won't catch sliding in or out of a bag, because the bag actually folds over the board. The folds creates a pocket for the parts and brushes. They are made from high quality cotton decorator fabrics. I am selling the bags for $30.00. I will be releasing a drum carder carry cover too. This way not only are the needles protected but your fingers, little children's fingers and your fur babies as well.
Not sure why, but I seem to hem and haw over those the most. I came up with a new feathered border that I really like its easy to remember and pretty quick too.

Don't forget my quilt contest. It is moving slow but I know I can give away some quilting, I just need 100 comments.
Maybe it's the dog days of summer? I thought it would be fun to give away free quilting. But I need a quilter to give it too! Soooo, here's the plan leave a comment below why and what you need quilted, if I can get 100 unique comments, I will pick one to quilt free. Only limitations is the quilt can not be over 90 inches. So here's a great chance to reduce your UFO pile. If in the meantime you need something quilted give me an email you will be surprised how affordable it can be. Leave an email so I know how to contact you or email me with your comment number and I will record your entry that way. Don't forget to follow me:)
No more hemming and hawing over how to quilt them. Time to have fun and get creative. Today's quilt is a pink and white vintage flea market find. I decided to give it a feathered texture to bring out the "girly" in it. I did have an email asking me if my machine was stitch regulated, no its not. My machine is an APQS Ultimate II an early workhorse machine. It is hand guided and loads of fun. I do quilt for others so please feel free to ask. My average price is only $.015per square inch.
Time to goal set and get them quilted. Not sure what that goal should look like? Maybe one a week and that will leave time for customer quilts. Working on Liz today. Then I will address the issue of the pile.
A reproduction quilt using fabric from the William Penn's Vision by Windham Fabrics. The pattern "Chester County Medallion we knick named the quilt Chester. I loved working this quilt and had enough fabric left over to make William son of Chester. From William his Bride was created from scraps I call this quilt Mary wife of William. Finally in progress is Samuel child of William and Mary, made from the remaining scraps!
Quilting has a rich tradition of helping causes and hopefully this quilt will be no exception. The quilt is made up of 12 sampler blocks that were exchanged from www.quiltingaroundtheworld.com. I then set the quilt in a traditional manor and finished it with an all over quilt design.
I just can't seem to commit to a design. Unlike a math problem, there are thousands of solutions to quilting this quilt, but I want to find the right solution. I have to remind myself, the solution is the one I choose! Now to get quilting.
I am launching a new site this week and that has been fun. www.NanaBlueQuilts.com is live and I am adding new products slowly. The studio is just ready and primed for a redesign---If only I can choose a theme! So, many wonderful colorways to go with. I love this quilts colorway but worry it will end up looking like a candy shop just too sweet.
Presently its a whopping 7 feet by 12 feet! I get to move it to the downstairs to a 3 room inlaw style apartment. I am sort of at a lost to where to begin, so later I will post pictures and decide what to put on the walls and floors! I can go from there, maybe with your help! I am thinking walls in a buff with a pink undertone???
Nana Blue Quiltshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12192567984473687159noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6813089994888734316.post-83763805509200505242011-05-09T18:37:00.000-07:002011-05-09T18:37:14.356-07:00way too long since postingThis is still here and waiting for love.
